    INVENTORY CLERK

    OBJECTIVE: To research and audit all aspects of inventory and warehouse transactions, ensuring accuracy.

    NATURE & SCOPE:
    The incumbent reports directly to the Inventory Control Manager. Ensures that cycle counts are completed and entered into our systems daily. Verifies inventory against the file and makes appropriate adjustments. Helps provide training. The incumbent must be able to react quickly when problems and /or questions arise. In most cases they are the liaison between the purchasing department, accounting, Boats & Motors, customer service, outlet store, call center and warehouse operations. Works in a fast paced environment and must be able to handle multiple demands. Makes bin location changes and assigns items to appropriate bin location based on cube & velocity in accordance with department plan.

    JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform daily cycle counts, research, document, validate and adjust based on prescribed guidelines
    • Compare the physical inventory against the system inventory, research and report variances, and adjust based on prescribed guidelines
    • Process returned merchandise, inspect and report status as directed. Perform necessary documentation and communication.
    • Assist with investigations and reconciliation of missing product
    • Train new staff members
    • Assist with other tasks as assigned, i.e. shipping, selection, receiving and packing
    • Audits warehouse transactions
    • Frequent communication with all departments
    • Communicates in a businesslike manner
    • Equipment used includes calculator, copy machine, fax machine, PC, printer, RF device, powered industrial equipment, scissor lift, and pallet jack
    • Works with the inventory control systems, and ERP systems
    • Report any and all errors to management
    • Ensure that Hazardous Materials, Limited Quantities, liquids, not regulated items, lithium batteries and any other items that require, special handling, storage or packing are appropriately handled and documented in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local & carrier specific regulations
    • Support other departments & classifications as assigned
    • May be assigned to support with facility maintenance duties as needed. Appropriate tools, safety equipment, or protective clothing will be supplied
    • Perform all tasks in accordance with Defenders policy’s and procedure

Must be able to work with frequent interruptions. Personal computer and data entry skills, MS Excel, Word a necessity. Must be able to work in a fast paced work environment.

    Physical Requirements:
    Works in a warehouse environment. Mobility required throughout and around facility. Manual dexterity required in the use of computers and printers.     WAREHOUSE GENERAL MAINTANANCE TECHNICIAN

    JOB SUMMARY:
    This position is responsible for assisting the facility and equipment manager with warehouse facility and equipment maintenance. Maintaining the facility and equipment in a safe and efficient manner. The incumbent will also attend Hazardous Materials training for proper handling, clean up packing, and storage. This position is expected perform sanitation tasks on a daily basis and as directed.

    In addition filling in or supplementing the fulfillment operation, in the selection, packing or receiving as necessary. This includes effective order selecting, packing and receiving product.

    NATURE & SCOPE:
    This position reports directly to the Facility and equipment Manager. It functions in a department that exists to provide experience, excellence and expertise in all areas of the maintenance and warehouse operations, especially facility and equipment maintenance. These tasks include the proper handling and clean-up of hazardous material and operation of the building and equipment.

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

    • Operates equipment such as but not limited too:
      • Pallet jacks
      • Fork trucks
      • Reach trucks
      • Sky jacks
      • Sweeper
      • Saws
      • Drills
      • Snow blower
    • Prepares periodic maintenance and sanitation reports and inspects facility to insure compliance with all governmental regulations and company standards as directed. Including Hazardous Materials
      • Performs daily sanitation tasks, such and sweeping, running mechanical sweeper
      • Emptying containers
      • Maintains exterior of facility neat free of unwanted growth
    • Supports all Risk programs as they relate to plant, property, and personnel
    • Monitors equipment safety checklists to ensure proper completion of repairs
    • Conducts and documents warehouse inspections as necessary
    • Additional aspects of this positions responsibilities involves:
      • Minimizing service problems encountered by our employees due to equipment failures
      • Ensures building and material handling equipment are repaired and in safe working order
    • Perform tasks accurately
    • Ensure that Hazardous Material, LQ and liquid are packed in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.
    • Complete all necessary documentation as they relate to the assigned task
    • Filling requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items and distributes items to shipping or to designated route driver storage area
    • Ensuring warehouse is accessible and safe
    • Sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, or mopping
    • Organizing warehouse and work area for orderliness at all times
    • Opening bales, crates, and other containers
    • Read computer generated documents/orders written in English and perform tasks as directed
    • Cooperate with other warehouse employees
    • Travel throughout the warehouse to pick the orders if necessary
    • Assist with other projects as assigned
    • Pack orders if necessary
    • Keep work areas stocked with packaging materials if required
    • Assist shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching (purchase orders, packing slips) to purchase orders
    • Moving materials and items from receiving or storage areas to shipping or to other designated areas
    • Recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed
    • Assisting in counting of physical inventory if required
    • Weighing and counting items to ensure conformance to company standards

    WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR

    NATURE & SCOPE:
    The incumbent reports directly to the Warehouse Operations Manager. Functions in a department that exists to provide experience, excellence and expertise in all areas of the warehouse operation, especially order selection, receiving, and shipment of product.

    JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Effectively manages subordinates and insures that they achieve desired operating results, including production, and accuracy expectations
    • Evaluates staffing needs and adjusts accordingly to maximize productivity, maintain on time shipments, and reduce overtime
    • Ensures that the warehouse operates within the staffing plan by analyzing and monitoring labor scheduling, operating procedures
    • Analyzes Defender’s operating metrics, and makes recommendation on staffing needs and assignments
    • Assists with the selection, training, performance appraisal, promotion, reassignment or recommendation of termination for warehouse personnel, while maintaining and promoting principles of Affirmative Action and EEO
    • Conducts regularly scheduled meetings with subordinates to review operation effectiveness and plan for continuous improvement and documents results
    • Counsels and coaches subordinates for situations such as poor performance and/or behavior problems
    • Ensures all new employees receive a job orientation, which includes safety and sanitation training
    • Ensures a safe work environment while maintaining targeted levels of productivity and quality
    • Continuously monitors the sanitation of the work area. Ensures the work area is clean and stocked accordingly
    • Additional aspects of this positions responsibilities involves:
      • Minimizing service problems encountered by our customers
      • Minimizing mark-outs, operational errors and damage problems
    • Effectively communicates operational objectives and develops goals to attain expected results
    • Developing and maintaining effective relations and productive teamwork with warehouse employees, supervisors, and other personnel
    • Files damage claims with LTL carriers. Tracks carrier performance

    • Responds to customer requests, inquiries and issues in a timely manner, as they relate to shipment problems, product conditions, or other concerns
    • Plans and prioritizes workload to ensure that department needs are met as well as the overall organizational needs of the company
    • Follows instructions promptly and efficiently, taking initiative when appropriate
    • Communicates frequently with subordinates to alert the status of on-going operations pertaining to the incumbent's area of responsibility
    • Responds promptly to telephone calls and electronic communication, demonstrating consideration and courtesy
    • Performs various Logistic Department related functions and assignments in an accurate and timely manner, as required by the circumstances and/or by the supervisor
    • Assists other department personnel in the performance of work activities when peak workloads require or during absences of facility personnel

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Work History: High School graduate or equivalent required. 4-year college degree desirable. Read and speak English. 5 years warehousing experience required. Previous supervisory experience required.

    PURCHASING COORDINATOR/BUYER

    Summary:
    Assist Product Managers in the procurement of merchandise which supports overall company sales, gross margin, customer service, and turnover objectives. Provide operational support to Product Managers. 

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensure timely delivery of merchandise through consistent communication and follow-up with vendors
    • Under the direction of Product managers, re-buy merchandise to support corporate goals
    • Set up new SKU’s as directed by Product Managers
    • Manage vendor quotes for assigned lines:  ensure timely receipt of vendor pricing, prepare vendor quotes and update shared databases
    • Process vendor returns; track and report on vendor product quality issues
    • Research and resolve receiving issues; track and report on vendor performance
    • Work on special projects as assigned by Product Managers or Management
    • Assist Product Managers in researching and recommending new lines and products for resale
    • Direct product line responsibility may be assigned

    Skill Summary:

    • Associate  Degree or equivalent work experience
    • Purchasing and inventory management experience in a retail or distribution environment
    • Strong analytical skills and the ability to make sound decisions
    • Proven ability to build strong relationships with internal business partners as well as external vendors
    • Experience with Microsoft Office and purchasing/inventory management systems a must
    • Team player who can work effectively in a fast paced environment
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills

    MARINE SERVICE TECHNICIAN

    General Summary: In addition to boat and outboard service, this individual will work with others for after sales support and be available to assist in the carrying out of miscellaneous duties as outlined, but not limited to the outline below.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Maintain and assist in organization of service area
    • Inspection of boats and motors as they are received
    • Troubleshoot and repair boats & engines for customers and dealer stock under warranty (Or not under warranty)
    • Produce proper paperwork for paid repairs and submit warranty claims including follow up and customer contact
    • Run engines that require PDI’s before delivery for customers
    • Set up trailers to match boats
    • Assist with Rigging jobs when required
    • Handle service inquiries in the store, on the phone or in person
    • Answer employee questions from call center and the store
    • Go to various schooling as required for certification purposes to learn more about the product and mechanics when and if offered
    • Assist in store retail sales if needed
    • Work Saturdays during busy season as required
    • Miscellaneous duties as needed to help Defender achieve their mission statement, (Warehouse sale, boat shows) which may mean being “lent” to another department, or Extended hours during the busy season

    Required Knowledge and Skills:
    Entry level:

    • Ability to follow procedure with attention to detail
    • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
    • Ability to communicate with customers in a professional manner
    • Knowledge of safety procedures
    • Knowledge of material moving including but not limited to, forklift operation
    • Knowledge of small outboard mechanics

    Advanced:

    • Knowledge of Inflatable boats
    • Knowledge of inflatable boat repair

    SELECTOR / PACKER WAREHOUSE ASSOCIATE

    Warehouse Associate with all warehouse fulfillment functions. Working from system directed RF devices to receive, locate, verify, select, pack & ship marine products. Conduct work practices in a manner which promotes safety that is in accordance with OSHA and MSDS standards. Prior warehouse experience desired; power industrial equipment experience is helpful.  Great Wage and Benefit Package & 401k + Employee discount. Full and Part time positions.

    Job Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Pick orders from RF Device, and computer generated packing slips.
    • Package, label, and prepare products for shipment.
    • Use shipping software to prepare shipping documents.
    • Assist shipping and receiving, unloading/loading trucks, and sorting/labeling inbound product.
    • Sorting and placing materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
    • Read computer generated documents and perform tasks as directed.
    • Cooperate with other warehouse employees.
    • Perform tasks accurately.
    • Assist other departments with projects as assigned.
    • Keep work area stocked with supplies. 
    • Ensure that Hazardous Materials, Limited Quantity, liquids and not regulated are packed in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.
    • Review all details associated with the packing slip or RF device.
    • Identify and report any and all errors to management.
    • Complete all necessary documentation as they relate to the assigned task.
    • Moving materials and items from receiving or storage areas to shipping or to other designated areas.
    • Ensures a safe work environment by adhering to all company policies.
    • Marking materials with identifying information using appropriate method.
    • Opening bales, crates, and other containers.
    • Assisting in counting of physical inventory.
    • Accurately records and confirms weights of all outbound freight.
    • May be assigned facilities maintenance duties as needed.
    • Sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, or other duties to keep a clean work environment.
    • Organizing warehouse and work area for orderliness at all times, and set-up for the next shift.

     Requirements

    • High School Diploma or equivalent. Read and write English..
    • 1-2 yrs. experience working in a fast pace, high detail oriented warehouse setting.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands, fingers, or feet to handle or manipulate product; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, climb ladders, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to thirty-five pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than one hundred pounds.
