Who We Are:

Defender is a family owned company located in Waterford, CT specializing in the sale of inflatable boats, outboard motors, marine parts & accessories since 1938.  As the largest inflatable boat dealer in the world, our expertise has made us the “go to” place for inflatable boats, motors, hard to find parts, custom rescue & rigged recreational inflatable boat packages.


The incumbent will perform a variety of functions as a member of the Defender Boats & Motors Team including Customer & vendor communication/interaction, inter-department support, as well as contributing to Department workflow & other general office tasks.

Job responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate, complete, & timely written & verbal communications in responses to Customer inquiries, service/warranty issues, quotes, & sales
  • Process documents for boat & motor orders & registration
  • Serve as a liaison to the Boats & Motors Sales & Service team, other Defender departments, Customers & vendors
  • Scheduling & coordinating appointments for sales & service
  • Proofing & editing of product information, including descriptions, images, format & content
  • General filing & organization
  • Any other duties that will help ensure the Company’s success & contribute to Customer satisfaction

Job Skills:

  • High level of reliability & close attention to details
  • Must be very well organized & able to handle & prioritize multiple projects independently while remaining efficient
  • Ability to navigate frequent interruptions without sacrificing quality of work
  • Takes initiative to improve, streamline & problem solve while gaining & expanding knowledge of products & processes
  • Present a professional level of Customer service
  • Ability to analyze Customer & vendor issues & resolve problems in an efficient & cost effective manner (thinks outside the box)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel & Outlook - knowledge of Access a plus
  • Basic math skills required with some understanding of the metric system
  • Ability to format product & sales flyers, create & present reports & procedure manual

Work History/Education:

Requires 2 years Customer Service experience, with some administrative responsibilities preferred.  Boating experience very desirable.  Minimum High School Diploma, some college preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Works in offices located within a retail & warehouse environment. May be required to lift between 20 to 30 pounds or climb a ladder. Movements vary between bending, sitting, & stooping.  Temperature ranges from 55 degrees to ambient.
