    ASSISTANT OPERATIONS WAREHOUSE SUPERVISOR

    OBJECTIVE: The incumbent is primarily responsible for the operation of our hazardous material lane, and selection desk. This includes effective selection, packing, and shipping of the orders. Documenting the activities and training of staff. The incumbent may provide direction to clerical support, and hourly personnel assigned to them. This position is expected to insure optimum service to our customers both internal and external while maintaining a cost effective, safe, sanitary, working environment, and with a high level of employee morale.

    NATURE & SCOPE: The incumbent reports directly to the Operations Manager and the Operations Supervisor. Functions in a department that exists to provide experience, excellence and expertise in all areas of the warehouse operation, especially order selection, receiving and shipment of orders.

    JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Conducts regularly scheduled meetings with subordinates to review operation effectiveness and plan for continuous improvement
    • Effectively manages subordinates and insures that they achieve desired operating results, including production, and accuracy expectations
    • Evaluates staffing needs and adjusts accordingly to maximize productivity, maintain on time shipments, and reduce overtime
    • Reviews sanitation reports and inspects warehouse to insure compliance with governmental regulations and company standards
      • Supports all Risk programs as they relate to plant, property, and personnel
      • Monitors equipment safety checklists to ensure proper completion by workers
      • Conducts and documents warehouse inspections as necessary
      • Maintains appropriate discipline; including proper documentation; ensuring consistency
    • Additional aspects of this positions responsibilities involves:
      • Minimizing service problems encountered by our customers
      • Minimizing markout, operational errors and damage problems
    • Ensures that the warehouse operates within the staffing plan by analyzing and monitoring labor scheduling, operating procedures, and historical data
    • Effectively communicates operational objectives and develops goals to attain expected results
    • Developing and maintaining effective relations and productive teamwork with warehouse employees, supervisors, and other personnel
    • Ensures a safe work environment while maintaining targeted levels of productivity and quality
    • Counsels and coaches subordinates for situations such as poor performance and/or behavior problems
    • Ensures all new employees receive a job orientation, which includes safety and sanitation training
    • Properly verify and validate all orders that are processed on the regulated commodities packing lane. This includes the review of items and documents, signing the order identifier label with the proper designation, and oversees the packing and shipping of these orders
    • Work with MSDS and be able to understand them as they relate to storage, handling and shipment. Also, every two years audit all MSDS on file to ensure we have the most current sheets
    • Run reports and audit USPS, FedEx and UPS Next Day orders prior to them leaving the building.
    • Assist in the auditing of all Boat & Motor ground shipments
    • Run the day end shipping report for the carriers and upload at the end of each shift
    • Assist in securing the building at the end of the shift

    STANDARDS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Position operates within defined company policy and procedures, and the Defender Industries employee handbook
    • Achieves planned Warehouse goals
    • Maintains favorable working relationships with company personnel, customers and vendor representatives
    • Responds to customer requests, inquiries and issues in a timely manner, as they relate to shipment problems, product conditions, or other concerns
    • Plans and prioritizes workload to ensure that department needs are met as well as the overall organizational needs of the company
    • Follows instructions promptly and efficiently, taking initiative when appropriate
    • Communicates frequently with subordinates to alert the status of on-going operations pertaining to the incumbent's area of responsibility
    • Responds promptly to telephone calls and electronic communication, demonstrating consideration and courtesy
    • Performs various Logistic Department related functions and assignments in an accurate and timely manner, as required by the circumstances and/or by the supervisor
    • Assists other department personnel in the performance of work activities when peak workloads require or during absences of facility personnel
    • Attends work regularly and on time

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Work History:

    • High School graduate or equivalent required
    • 4-year college degree desirable
    • Read and speak English
    • 2 years warehousing experience required
    • Previous supervisory experience required

    Job Skills: Excellent human relations skills and interpersonal skills required. Skills in conflict resolution needed. Accuracy and timeliness are very important. Must be able to work with frequent interruptions. Personal computer and data entry skills and familiarity with MS Excel, Outlook, and Word a necessity. Must be able to work in a fast paced work environment. Accuracy, attention to detail, neatness, good communication skills, ability to prioritize and organize, and flexibility are all important to effectively perform this job.

    Physical Requirements: Works in a warehouse environment. Mobility required throughout and around facility. Manual dexterity required in the use of computers and printers.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; to reach with hands and arms; to talk and to hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; bend; stoop; climb ladders; kneel; crouch and crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Temperature ranges from 55 to ambient.

    The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than one hundred (100) pounds.

    Hours: Normal schedule is Monday - Friday, 09:30 - 18:00 or close of operation. Additional Hours as Necessary and Required.

    MARINE SERVICE TECHNICIAN

    General Summary: In addition to boat and outboard service, this individual will work with others for after sales support and be available to assist in the carrying out of miscellaneous duties as outlined, but not limited to the outline below.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Maintain and assist in organization of service area
    • Inspection of boats and motors as they are received
    • Troubleshoot and repair boats & engines for customers and dealer stock under warranty (Or not under warranty)
    • Produce proper paperwork for paid repairs and submit warranty claims including follow up and customer contact
    • Run engines that require PDI’s before delivery for customers
    • Set up trailers to match boats
    • Assist with Rigging jobs when required
    • Handle service inquiries in the store, on the phone or in person
    • Answer employee questions from call center and the store
    • Go to various schooling as required for certification purposes to learn more about the product and mechanics when and if offered
    • Assist in store retail sales if needed
    • Work Saturdays during busy season as required
    • Miscellaneous duties as needed to help Defender achieve their mission statement, (Warehouse sale, boat shows) which may mean being “lent” to another department, or Extended hours during the busy season

    Required Knowledge and Skills:
    Entry level:

    • Ability to follow procedure with attention to detail
    • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
    • Ability to communicate with customers in a professional manner
    • Knowledge of safety procedures
    • Knowledge of material moving including but not limited to, forklift operation
    • Knowledge of small outboard mechanics

    Advanced:

    • Knowledge of Inflatable boats
    • Knowledge of inflatable boat repair

    Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent, boating experience needed

    SELECTOR / PACKER WAREHOUSE ASSOCIATE

    Warehouse Associate with all warehouse fulfillment functions. Working from system directed RF devices to receive, locate, verify, select, pack & ship marine products. Conduct work practices in a manner which promotes safety that is in accordance with OSHA and MSDS standards. Prior warehouse experience desired; power industrial equipment experience is helpful.  Great Wage and Benefit Package & 401k + Employee discount. Full and Part time positions.

    Job Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Pick orders from RF Device, and computer generated packing slips.
    • Package, label, and prepare products for shipment.
    • Use shipping software to prepare shipping documents.
    • Assist shipping and receiving, unloading/loading trucks, and sorting/labeling inbound product.
    • Sorting and placing materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
    • Read computer generated documents and perform tasks as directed.
    • Cooperate with other warehouse employees.
    • Perform tasks accurately.
    • Assist other departments with projects as assigned.
    • Keep work area stocked with supplies. 
    • Ensure that Hazardous Materials, Limited Quantity, liquids and not regulated are packed in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.
    • Review all details associated with the packing slip or RF device.
    • Identify and report any and all errors to management.
    • Complete all necessary documentation as they relate to the assigned task.
    • Moving materials and items from receiving or storage areas to shipping or to other designated areas.
    • Ensures a safe work environment by adhering to all company policies.
    • Marking materials with identifying information using appropriate method.
    • Opening bales, crates, and other containers.
    • Assisting in counting of physical inventory.
    • Accurately records and confirms weights of all outbound freight.
    • May be assigned facilities maintenance duties as needed.
    • Sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, or other duties to keep a clean work environment.
    • Organizing warehouse and work area for orderliness at all times, and set-up for the next shift.

     Requirements

    • High School Diploma or equivalent. Read and write English..
    • 1-2 yrs. experience working in a fast pace, high detail oriented warehouse setting.
