BOAT RIGGER / TECHNICIAN - PART TIME

Become a part of the World's Largest Inflatable Boat Dealer’s Technical team! At Defender we passionately serve boating enthusiasts and First Response/Law Enforcement Agencies by delivering value in our products and service. Defender has an opening for a Part-Time Boat Rigger / Technician.

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for assisting in the assembly of Rigged Boat Packages and assuring all product is prepped, clean, and customer ready upon delivery.  Other tasks associated with the sales  service of Defender’s Inflatable Boats and Motors Department.

Essential Job Functions:

Perform prep on RIB & Rescue Boat packages.  Includes, but is not limited to: assembling inflatable boats, installing motors, adding accessories, review product with customers in accordance to department standards, set-up of boat trailers and inspection of packages in-bound and out-bound.

Assisting in the service / repair of inflatable boats, motors and associated systems.

Assure visual presentation standards are met by facility up-keep.  Assuring product presentation to meet Customers’ expectations, to include, but not limited to cleaning and inspection of all boats on display, in the service shop and going out the door for a Customer.

Move boats, motors, and trailers around interior or exterior of buildings. Assist in loading and unloading of boat and trailer shipments.

Assist Managerial and Technical staff as needed.

Other Duties as Assigned by Management.

Requirements:

  • General Boating Experience (preferred)
  • Strong mechanical background (preferred)
  • Forklift Experience (preferred)
  • Must have wiring ability (12 volt DC) Preferred
  • Mechanical ability to include skills in trouble shooting outboard issues (preferred)
  • Mechanical ability to include skills in trouble shooting inflatable boat issues (preferred)
  • Ability to use good judgment and logic (required)
  • Organizational aptitude and the ability to take direction
  • Must be able to stock / retrieve product at various racking levels, use step-stool or ladder, etc.
  • Ability to read documents, printouts, computer screens and other written communication
  • A team player with a positive attitude. Self-motivated, disciplined & energetic

Hiring preference is given to those with solid mechanical knowledge and at least six months to one year of experience in the Marine Industry. 

Compensation depends on experience.

CUSTOMER SERVICE - CALL CENTER

Defender is looking for an individual with Excellent Customer Service, problem solving abilities and communication skills. Applicant will be responsible for providing quality and efficient customer service to both internal and external customers. Computer skills required, in assisting fellow Boaters in our busy Call Center. Individual must be multi-task oriented, able to work in busy, often-times stressful office environment. Applicant must have a minimum of one year Call Center experience, and also needs to demonstrate independent decision making qualities.

MARINE INSIDE SALES - CALL CENTER

Defender is looking for an individual with boating & sales experience as well as excellent Customer service, communications, & computer skills, helping fellow boaters in our busy Call Center. Knowledge of marine electronics, boating equipment & systems a plus. Full or part time - flexible schedule. Full benefits, 401k, profit-sharing, Employee discounts!

Individual must have knowledge of marine industry and boating products must be multi-task oriented, as well as the ability to work in busy office environment. Individual will be responsible for providing quality and efficient customer service to customers. A minimum of one year Call Center experience is required. Person needs to have independent decision making qualities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  3. Work with Purchasing Department to fulfill special order requests

OUTLET STORE SALES ASSOCIATE

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for establishing and providing high standards in customer relations, product knowledge and sales floor services.  This position requires us to maintain optimum customer service levels through personalized, friendly service.  Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of all products and current marketing strategies.  Responsible for answering phones and respond to cashier paging in a timely manner.  Maintain inventory, product merchandising standards and inventory counts.  Maintain store cleanliness & facility conditions.  Maintain a vigilant security watch on store merchandise, as well as customer safety.  Cooperate with all departments.  Help load and unload merchandise for customers when needed.  

Nature and Scope:
This position reports directly to the Outlet Store Manager and Assistant Manager.  It functions in a department that exists to provide experience, excellence, and expertise in all areas of the Outlet Store, especially in customized friendly service.  

Education and Experience:
2 year college degree, and or 3+ years of marine industry experience, and/or moderate boating experience/product knowledge with High School Diploma required. (Sail or Power preferred)  

Essential Job Duties:
Customer service in varying degrees.  Help customers locate in stock items.  Guide customers in different scenarios of customer service. Answer incoming phone calls, providing answers and guidance for customers calling in.  Take orders for customers for items we don’t have in stock or don’t normally carry in stock. Help customers with purchased items out to their vehicles.

STANDARDS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Accuracy and timeliness are very important.  Must be able to work with frequent interruptions. Personal computer and data entry skills, familiarity with MS Excel, and Word a plus. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment. Accuracy, attention to detail, neatness, good communication skills, ability to prioritize and organize and flexibility are all important to effectively perform this job

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; to reach with hands and arms; to talk and to hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; stoop; climb ladders; kneel; crouch and crawl.
