A safety tether is an essential part of open ocean travel in a boat, especially in heavy seas, and is certainly invaluable whenever single handling or when a child is on board. A double, or dual action, tether allows you to move about your vessel in very heavy seas, with one end of the tether remaining attached to a jackline or other attachment point in your boat as you fasten the other end of the tether to another spot.

Note: The harness should fit high up on the torso, where the snap shackle of the tether clips on, so you remain "heads up" if you accidentally fall overboard and the tether starts to drag you behind your boat. This is the reason for the variation in harness sizes from child to adult.
