Replaced windlass in 1991 50 foot boat
The boat weighs south of 20 tons and the 2200 windlass I had was getting old. While it was running fine, decided to upgrade to a VWC3500 and no regrets. THe thing is a beast, especially with the improved electrical feed off a major cable bus of 3/0 wire. Very powerful, and a bit scary for hands and feet, so we only let experienced crew near it. The installation was simple, the solenoid pack was a lot more compact than the old units, and the biggest installation work was the glass work and reinforcement of the deck, and making the perfectly aligned holes for the plate pattern. One trick a buyer could consider is to take metric srews and grind them to a point, to mark the alignment. this tricked worked well.
