After rattling off his experience selling boats and boating equipment over the decades, Bob paused and said with a grin, "Yeah, I’ve got a reasonable background."
That background started in a classic 15-foot Lyman lapstrake with a 25 Evinrude on Lake Winnipesaukee when he was a kid. "We’d go fishing and boat camping," he said. "We had a great time."
Later on, Bob was in sales for Tanzer Sailboats before he made the move to Pearson, where he worked as a sales manager, first in sailboats and then in power when Pearson expanded its line. He spent a great deal of time sailing Pearsons and was featured along with his family in a photo that made the cover of a sales promotion.
Over the years, he sold sailboat hardware, worked as a sales manager for Mattatuck Marina on Long Island and for a yacht brokerage.
He’s owned at least five boats that he can recall, power and sail, and for years spent nearly every weekend racing sailboats in the Eastern Connecticut Sailing Association series. He admitted that for a family man he spent almost too much time racing, but that’s another story.
Bob came to Defender after running the after-market sales operation for Faria Instruments, which produces engine instrumentation, for 20 years.
He said he enjoys swapping stories with customers and lending his years of experience to their projects and product selection.
