Marine Electrical Wire
Defender Marine offers nearly every marine electrical wire that your boat requires. Follow the standard color and use guide for marine electrical wire applications then match wire gauge. Primary, duplex and multicolor wires are offered by the roll, and triplex wires are available in continuous shots up to 500 feet. Defender makes the simple job easy with premade battery cables and speaker wire.
How is marine electrical wire sold?
Marine electrical wire comes by the foot, shot, or roll. Keep in mind that wire rolls can get very heavy and shipping costs will be something to consider when budgeting your project. Premade battery wires are available in 18 to 48-inch lengths complete with connectors on the ends.
What is AWG?
American Wire Gauge is the measurement standard for marine electrical wire. The gauge of the wire is a marker for the amount of load the wire can safely and efficiently handle. As the gauge number increases you will find the diameter of the wire will increase. AWG is the standard of measurements for all primary, secondary, multi-conductor, and more marine electrical wires available from Defender.
What happens if I use the wrong size wire?
Using the wrong size marine electrical wire can cause inefficiency in any electric system at best. At worst, using a wire that is too small for the electrical load can cause overheating and fire. Correct wire size is so important, the American Boat and Yacht Council, which develops safety standards in boat building across the globe, offers a handy app that will convert load and application into the marine electrical wire recommended gauge.
