402759 Wood Chart Wood Chart Lake Superior NLSP-D4L

WoodChart's beautiful map of Lake Superior is a 3-D nautical wood map featuring the largest of the Great Lakes, and the largest freshwater lake in the world (by surface area). Its deepest point is 733 feet below sea level, which qualifies it as the lowest — and most insulated — point in the continental interior of the United States. The water at the bottom of the lake is so well insulated that it stays a constant 39° F and only mixes with the warmer water above it twice each year (when the whole lake is 39 degrees).

Points of interest include: Baraga, Calumet, Duluth, Isle Royale, Lake Superior Provincial Park, Marquette, Presque Isle, Sault Ste. Marie, Superior National Forest, and Thunder Bay.

    Features:

    • Chart Location: Lake Superior
    • Material: Baltic Birch
    • Dimensions: 24.5" x 31"
    • Ready to hang solid-wood frame with quality acrylic dust cover
    • Intricate detail

Starting with a bathymetric chart (the underwater equivalent of a topographic map), Wood Charts uses laser-cutters to carve the contours into sheets of Baltic birch and glue them together to create a powerful visual depth. They hand stain select layers a blue-green so it's easy to discern land from water, etch major byways into the land, then frame the carving in a custom, solid-wood frame protected with a sheet of durable, ultra-transparent acrylic and ready to hang.
