402685 Wood Chart Wood Chart San Francisco Bay Area FRSCO-D5L

This beautiful 3-D nautical wood map of the San Francisco Bay Area depicts the shallow, productive estuary as well as San Francisco Bay, which connects the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers with the Pacific Ocean.

Gathering the rainfall and snowmelt from an enormous watershed, these outflows drain approximately 40% of California into the bay, which then flows out (under the Golden Gate Bridge) into the Pacific Ocean. It's the largest Pacific estuary in the Americas and, despite significant mining and construction-related damage over the past century, it remains a rich part of the coast.

Points of interest depicted: San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Vallejo, San Rafael, Sausalito, Alameda, Golden Gate Park, Alcatraz, Bridge Bay, Redwood City, and Palo Alto.

    Features:

    • Chart Location: San Francisco featuring the San Francisco Bay Area
    • Material: Baltic birchwood
    • Dimensions: 24.5" x 31"
    • Ready to hang solid-wood frame with quality acrylic dust cover
    • Intricate detail

Starting with a bathymetric chart (the underwater equivalent of a topographic map), WoodCharts uses laser cutters to carve the contours into sheets of Baltic birch and glues them together to create a powerful visual depth. They hand stain select layers a blue-green so it's easy to discern land from water, etch major byways into the land, then frame the carving in a custom, solid-wood frame, protected with a sheet of durable, ultra-transparent acrylic and ready to hang.
