Questions

Can this radio be flush mounted? Does it need a special antenna for the AIS?

Asked by: Richard
I mounted the radio using the support that comes with it. I id not explore other options. I am using the VHF antenna on the mast top and can hear radio signals from more than 20 miles away. I see AIS signals from ships at least 5 miles. But even without the antenna connected reception is pretty good. However, this may depend on many factors, and I wouldn't rely on it. I am not an expert and just answer as best as I can.
