Wood Chart Jupiter Island
WoodChart's beautiful map of Jupiter Island is a 3-D nautical wood map featuring this barrier island between Florida's Atlantic Coast and the Intracoastal Waterwary that earned the distinction as an "extraordinary and rare" community in a decades-old zoning case that locals still refer to as a source of pride. A Circuit Court Judge, Wallace Sample, said of Jupiter Island, "The community is unique – it is the one and only, different from all others, having no like or equal. It is unusual, extraordinary and rare. It was cut from one mold and its counterpart cannot be found elsewhere... it is very much alive with genteel living, friendship and compatibility... many others would be better off if they had more of what this Town has and wants to keep - seclusion, solitude and tranquility."

Starting with a bathymetric chart (the underwater equivalent of a topographic map), Wood Charts uses laser-cutters to carve the contours into sheets of Baltic birch and glue them together to create a powerful visual depth. They hand stain select layers a blue-green so it's easy to discern land from water, etch major byways into the land, then frame the carving in a custom, solid-wood frame protected with a sheet of durable, ultra-transparent acrylic and ready to hang.
